S2L1. Students will investigate the life cycles of different living organisms.
a. Determine the sequence of the life cycle of common animals in your area: a mammal such as a cat or dog or classroom pet, a bird such as a chicken, an amphibian such as a frog, and an insect such as a butterfly.
My second graders really enjoyed the Web Quest. Before doing this Web Quest my class already had background knowledge about how to fill out a venn diagram and other animal life cycles. This Web Quest was split into 5 different days. Our Science time usually last about 15 min. The first day I went through the whole Web Quest as a whole group. I explained how to go through the tabs and showed them how to maneuver through the Web Quest. When students started the Web Quest I called some of my struggling readers to my small group with their netbooks and we went through the Web Quest Task together. Everyone else in my class did not have any trouble going through each task. The Life Cycle Diagram was and individual project. Before that task we went over the rubric as a whole group so that all the student knew what to look for. I also provided marker, crayons, and chart paper for my students. I allowed them to work at their own pace. 5 days was more than enough for them to complete the entire Web Quest I hope you enjoy the Web Quest as much as my students!
